One Skein Gifts – June and July
My one skein package came from my secret pal yesterday! My pal went ahead and sent both June and July’s gifts at once. I taught 9 students yesterday, which is a lot, plus traveled to and back from Newberg. When I got home at 10:30 last night this was waiting for me and it made my exaustion the happy giddy kind.
First I got some grey hand spun yarn. It is tweedy looking due to several shades of black/grey and white being spun together. I really like it, but I’m not sure what I’ll do with it yet. Maybe some gloves?
This green is incredibly soft. I love it so much! There is a little over 500 yards in both balls! I don’t know what it will be yet, but I can tell it’s going to be a delight to knit with.
Then there were more goodies! The needles are handmade. I’m just waiting for the rest of my handspun to dry and I’m going to cast on a scarf with these. They are a little smaller than US 8 and they are very smooth. I think the tips will be really easy to knit with also. Two candles which made the box smell wonderful.
Here’s a close up of the stitch markers. These are my first special stitch markers. I have ugly plastic rings and I usually use little bits of yarn. Now my knitting can look stylin’ as I go.
Thank you so much AJ! I love my box.
I’m glad you like your things. The BEAST should felt if you want to use it for something like that. I’ve used the Rainbows for socks before. They turn out comfortable.
The needles are just dowel sticks from Wal-Mart. I sharpen them in the pencil sharpener. To smooth them, I rub them with beeswax. It’s actually a product called snow proof or something. My husband uses it on his work boots. They sell it in a blue and white jar, by the shoe laces at Wal-Mart. I rub it in with fine steel wool. It usually only takes a few coats.
The beads were a little larger than the dowels. So I put them on some plastic wrap and filled them with wood glue, and held the stick in until it would hold. That filled the void space.
I promise to be better about getting your August box to you on time! Thanks for being such a great Exchange Pal!
Nice loot! And I love the pic with your kitty. :)
I got some beeswax from the craft store. I couldn’t find the snow proof stuff, so plain beeswax will have to do. I’ve really been enjoying the needles.
I love the picture of Jasmine too. She’s such a goof. This morning she was running around the house chasing invisible mice.
