Handmade Occasions – Week 3
Every week I’m putting together 5 tutorials that are good ideas for gifts. To me a homemade gift has that little extra special way of showing you care. You can also start organizing your lists by joining Handmade Occasions series and joining the link party below.
Handmade Occasions – Week 3
This week I decided to (mostly) focus on decor. With a child in the house I have more of a desire and reason to do some seasonal decorating. Plus who doesn’t like to spruce up a little here and there.
I’ve always wanted to make a special banner for occasions. However, I’ve definitely thought it would be practical to somehow be able to use it for many different occasions. Enter the chalkboard banner. This awesome banner tutorial by Linen, Lace, and Love will get you set for any occasion.
Want to make the banner with chalkboard paint, not into the traditional black or green? Martha Stewart has a tutorial on how to turn any flat latex paint into chalkboard paint. Making any color definitely got me thinking about several different possible projects.
I have dabbled a little into printing fabric, but am always looking for inspiration on different ways to get effects and different tools to do the job right. I immediately fell in love with this fabric stenciling tutorial by Mad Mim. She’s done several tutorials on printing and is a wealth of knowledge.
Need something to get you ready for the holidays. These are the projects I don’t ever remember until it’s too late. I already have a tree skirt (with instructions), but I know people that might like one. What I love about something like this is that every year, your gift recipient will treasure it and remember the thought and love put into it. There are not many tree skirt tutorials I like, but this one from Ellison Lane Quilts is quite lovely.
I can’t finish without something for the little ones. You guys don’t understand (or maybe you do). I’m the age where there are babies coming into my life every month. I’ve always loved this Snow Pixie Hat (scroll down) by Sew Liberated. It’s been high on my list of must makes for awhile. We recently swapped rooms in our house and my sewing area has really come together. Can you tell that I’m jonesing to get using my machine?
