Eugene FreeCycle

January 9, 2007

I finally did it.  I’ve been meaning to use Freecycle for awhile (we have a ton of crap around the house, some of it from working on the house, some of it from things that were left by the previous owners) but for some reason could not ever find the motivation to do it.  Taylor had told me about it months ago and I’m glad she did.  It was super easy, and we ended getting rid of some cat food which will hopefully go to a better home where it will get used (Jasmine’s a very picky eater you know).

Freecycle is an online community (Eugene’s is pretty big) that helps prevent random stuff from filling up the landfills.  How often have you thought “I wish I didn’t have to throw this away, someone could probably use it, but I can’t.”  That would be a perfect Freecycle item.  It works a lot like a Classified but everything is free.  The networks are set up by community, so find the Freecycle in you community.

I love freecycle. I often donate to charitable groups, especially when they call and will have a truck picking up in my area. But it is also nice to be able to give a specific item a good home with someone that you know will use it, and has given things to other people. I have gotten a few nice things for my home from freecycle as well!

I have also started the fiddle lessons! I just have to make myself practice every day!

Congrats on starting Fiddle Lessons! I always tell my students that small amounts (especially in the beginning) just 10-15 minutes at a time are good in the beginning. Since they are so small try to practice several times during the day, 2 or 3 times. Short and often are the best ways to go.

Freecycle was super easy to use, and I’m sure we’ll be taking advantage of it after our garage sale.
