Essential

November 12, 2006

I’ve been knitting up a quick pair of socks for a friend out of Essential Knitpicks Sock Yarn this weekend and I’m loving it! I’m doing two at a time, toe up, and am attempting to finish them for Tuesday. They are for our friend Jon, who has helped us so much with moving and fixing our house. His birthday is Tuesday, and just seemed time to give a special gift for all of his help.

I have to say though that this yarn has gone beyond what I expected. It is so soft, the color is fabulous and I you can’t say no to the price. I only got a few balls so that I could check it out, but I’m seeing a new Knitpicks order in the near future. Hopefully they hold up as well as they knit up.

Thanks for the review of KP Essential Sock Yarn. Although I am not a prolific sock knitter, I do like to know which ones are good. I’ve been stuck a few times with sock yarn that I fine rather coarse feeling.

Yes, I second the thanks for the review. In the past I haven’t been too impressed with KP’s sock yarn. They were scratchy (even after a few washings) and didn’t really hold up. Hmm, maybe it’s time to give their sock yarn another try.

i’m knitting the almost argyle pattern from knitpicks using essential. i’m not crazy about the color (he picked it out) but it is really nice. and cheap! i’m crossing my fingers about its durability too. i do know that knitpicks’ simple stripes holds up *really* well though. kellen wears his blue pair at least once a week and there aren’t even any weak stitches yet!

Glad I could help with the review. I’m still working on the socks. I’m about the turn the heel and I’m still lovin’ it. Very soft! Plus I forgot to mention that the resulting fabric is great. I’m using Audi turbos size US #1, and lately the Audi’s have been too big for all my sock yarn. They are my favorite needles, so I was happy that the fabric turned out just right.

It’s comforting to know that simple stripes lasts well. I’m relatively sure that these are the same yarn just different color combos.
