November…

November 2, 2006

I’ve been reminiscing lately.  Mostly because it’s November, and seeing all the NaNo blogging takes me back.

Last November I actually participated in NaNoWriMo and succeeded in writing 50,000 (plus blogging about it) in one month. It’s all here still, so you can reminisce with me.  I thought about it this year, but decided it was in my best interest to take a year off.  I have many reasons for this.

1) I am full throttle in grad school.  This includes intense class work and practice.  I’ve started preparing the music for my masters recital.

2) I am knitting way more that I was last year.  Including many, many designs that are being sketched out and knitted up all the time.  If I can’t start knitting faster I may have to see about getting volunteer test knitters.

3) I’m not sure I’m ready to be that close to my book again.  My original idea for Nano this year was to go through and edit my book.  Plus probably add at least another 25,000 words making it closer to actual novel length.   I don’t feel done with my book yet, but I’m not sure I feel ready to invest in it again.

4) I haven’t really been inspired by another book plot over the past year, making it hard to start from scratch.

I would really like to do NaNo again sometime, just not this year.  I have been knitting a ton the last few days, and if I had a camera, I could show you.  Since I don’t I’ll tell you.  I finished Jasmine’s Kitty Pi.  She looks so cute in it.  Don’t let anyone tell you that front loading washers don’t felt.  I only had to run it through one cycle, and it had almost felted too small.  I just set the washer to heavy soil, hot/cold rinse and high spin speed with some towels.  I also finished my Icarus shawl (I didn’t put that in the front loader though) and I can’t wait to block it. Icarus is my first finished lace and first blocked lace.  I’ve been dying to wear it ever since it’s been cooler.  I will share pictures as soon as I can get ahold of a camera.

I also joined another swap (even though I said I was swapped out).  I missed out on KSKS, but I won’t be missing out on KMKS.  Sign ups end on Friday Nov 3rd, so hurry up.
