Widdershins Socks

September 6, 2006

I’ve completed another pair of socks for Summer of Socks. I finished these while I was in San Diego. They are Anthony’s second pair, and he was excited to get them. Although lately he has been hinting at wanting larger projects. He even said he would really like a sweater… Of course I wouldn’t dare tempt the boyfriend curse.

Widdershins Socks Widdershins Downward Slope Widdershins Cable Detail

Project Specs;

The cables make the ankle and cuff section a little tight. You have to kind of inch the socks onto your foot. This was the first time I did toe up socks and the first time that I did both at the same time. I have mixed feelings about doing both at the same time. I think it actually took me longer. Or it could have been the cables. The pattern was good, the cables fun and Anthony has another nice pair of socks.

    I got around the boyfriend curse by knitting a vest – which technically isn’t a sweater. And there’s a shop in the 5th Street Market that has (or had) some cute buttons – little photos of the Stooges, Marlon Brando, Einstein, etc.

    And, it takes so much less time to knit a vest. Just perfect for a busy violin teacher. :)

    kudos to your patient on a sock, i am a bit afraid to attempt to make socks, it seems so tangly to me but they are lovely for sure..

    Oooo… a vest. That may be doable. I would want to make it a super geeky one for him too. Hehehe. He’s my computer geek.

    Nihal, don’t be afraid of socks! Once you make them, you’ll never forget how, and they aren’t that scary. They are however highly addictive, so beware. It’s very hard for me not to have a pair of socks on the needles at all times. I’ve also recently greatly enhanced my sock yarn stash, but I’m sure you’ll see more on that later.

    What did you think about the m1 and m1p during the heel turn (in the widdershins pattern)? What are those m1’s doing for the heel?
