Pea Pod Baby Sweater
I couldn’t blog about this because Taylor reads my blog occasionally. I made the Pea Pod Baby sweater(pdf) for their baby shower on Sunday, and I actually finished in time. It is true that I was sewing buttons, seaming and tucking ends in the morning of the shower. However, that doesn’t matter because it was wrapped and ready to go with extra time when we needed to leave. Here are the pictures of the finished piece.
Now, if you are a yarn snob, stop right here. Don’t read any further, for your own good. This sweater turned out much larger than I had anticipated. I made the pattern for the 3 month old baby, but ended up with a sweater that will probably fit a two year old. Why? My yarn was much larger than what the pattern called for. I didn’t bother with swatching, Wigwam will grow into it eventually. My yarn was much bigger because I used Red Heart. (Gasp, shock, the horror, I know.) I happend to have to perfect color for the sweater from some of my old stash, not to mention it will be much easier to take care of. Totally machine washable and dryable. However, it isn’t the softest thing ever. It’s good that it’ll be worn on a 24 month old instead of a 3 month old. I had to modify the sleeve length since it turned out bigger. I still used US size 5 needles. I started it on 7/25ish, and finished it on 8/6.
I loved this pattern and recommend it to anybody who has a baby to knit for. It was easy, quick, interesting and fun. This is my second completed sweater. I’m very happy with it.

Just a little teaser of what I’ve been working on now.
This is another one of my patterns and this one will be up for sale. I’m making it out of some of the yarn I hand dyed. I will say that the pattern will be completly seamless, and so far its been great to knit up. Is that a sufficiant tease? Strings and Yarn 
I don’t think anyone can fault you on this cute little jumper! It is the most lovely colour – and children are ALWAYS growing – so it will fit perfectly one day.
It came out great! I don’t fault you for using Red Heart. I always make baby gifts out of something easy care too. It just makes more sense for a non-knitting mom.
We love this, and are excited to see Wigwam running around in it someday. And really, with diapers, diaper covers, little clothes, bedding, our clothes, ad nauseum, needing laundry…I’m really glad it doesn’t need special treatment. Thank you for that. We already have enough sweaters and nice things that I will have to find time to gently hand wash.

I got to see the sweater in person the day after the shower. My first thought was, “Hey, I had some of that yarn!” For some reason I thought I needed 4 skeins of it to knit a scarf… so I wound up using it in quite a few projects. I see that color in my sleep sometimes.

the baby sweater is so cute! you made a great choice to use red heart. there will be lots of laundry.
already i dont understand this yarn snob thing. a baby thing must be out of something wont felt and wont stained in order to keep the new mommy sane. over here where i live, when you ask for a baby yarn all you can find is very soft acrylic yarn.
I’m glad I’m not the ony one who occasionally uses acrylic. I’ll be glad when I’ve depleated my acrylic stash though.
