New Orifice Hook
August 1, 2006
Last week because I was haveing a rough week, Kim got me a cute present! She got me a new orifice hook. (For the non-spinner/knitters, I know this sound really weird, and kind of gross, but I swear it’s not that weird or gross. However, if I try to explain how we use it by sticking into a hole to pull out fiber, this probably won’t help. We really need to decide to name this hook something else. Can it be a fiber hook? Why orifice?) I had seen her orifice hook, back before I knew what it was. Here is a picture of my new orifice hook next to my old bent up piece of wire.
The wire one came with my wheel, but as you can see, I’ve seriously upgraded now. Thank you so much Kim! I love it!

My no-frills wheel (12-year-old Fricke S10) has a wire loop thingy on the flyer so it doesn’t use an orifice hook. I’m orifice-less and I feel like I’m missing out on something secret!
As a non-knitter, I must say that the orfice hook sounded like it was mighty close to the limits of good taste for a family blog.
I can’t recommend anywhere to hike in Oregon, but I have hiked pretty much all over northern and central New England, and in the hillier parts of Québec, if you guys are ever in the area. Quite a few contradance reels and jigs have been composed while hiking. Unfortunately, waltzes and hiking don’t mix well at all.
My Word! I really didn’t know what to think when I read that post title! But, well…my sick sense of curiousity won out and I just had to find out what it was all about. Now I am properly educated!
