Slugs Be Gone!

May 8, 2006

I have had slugs in my house. Every night they come out and attack Jasmines food and water. I have no idea how they got into the apartment and where they go during the day, but they certainly come out every night.

I tried everything. I put salt all around her dishes, and outside the back door. Anthony also suggested setting out a bowl of beer. Apparently they like beer drink it and fall in. I however have never been willing to give up a beer to the slugs. I would much rather use it myself.

I did find that beer for myself was the answer. Anthony and I were having a few drinks with friends and we got back to my place very late. Late enough that the slugs were out. Two of them were around Jasmine’s dishes and we quickly got rid of them . The secret was not to give the beer to the slugs, but to ourselves. No slug problems since.

Slugs and snails won’t cross copper tape (available at home supply stores) because it conducts electricity. Wrap it around the base of the bowls and the slugs won’t cross over. I’d be grossed out seeing slugs in my pets food and water bowls! I wonder where they’re coming from: they’re sneaky devils!

Copper tape huh? I’ll keep it in mind. So far we haven’t had any other signs of slimy grossness. Otherwise my apartment is very bug free. Anything that moves is eaten by my cat, Jasmine.

Use Bud or Miller beer for your slug traps, those brands aren’t fit for human consumption anyway…
