Wooooly Hat

April 19, 2006

I’ve been waiting to post this forever. I made this, and finished it in January. I just haven’t been able to post it because it sat on the desk for a long time waiting to be sent. This hat has been sent to Ging all the way to Australia! (Go see her blog to check out her pictures!)

Here’s a picture of me wearing it…

And of course the side view;

I can’t remember the book I got it from. Something from the library… I remember it was full of accessories. It was quick to knit except for the ear flaps. For some reason the first time I made it the ear flaps ended up on the front and back instead of the sides.

It all worked out in the end though. Now it has a wonderful home where it will be loved, and look super cute on Ging.

    How come it didn’t look like that on me!! I put in on Paul last night & it looked FANTASTIC! Wanted to take a pic, but I knew he wouldn’t let me…

    Cuuuute.
    I’m thinking this hat looks like it came from Easy Knitted Accessories by Jeanette Trotman. I have that page bookmarked, as one can never have too many kitty hats (I’ve already made and wear the one from the Stitch-N-Bitch book).

    Jeanette Trotman? Is that not a bit freaky? Ging’s ‘real name’ being Jeanette Bergman ‘an all! Jeanette spelt ‘the right way’ for a change, too!!!

    I think you’re right about the book! I think I even looked at the author and thought…”oh look her name is Jeanette.” That’s hilarious! I can’t believe I forgot that. Is it the cat hat from the Stitch n’ Bitch book. That one really does have ears. This one is just square shaped. I think I may have seen a picture of it on you blog, except it wasn’t on your head, it was on your leg. :)

    Yeah, the kitty-hat on my leg (aka Stump Cozy/Snood, etc) is the kitty hat from the Stitch-N-Bitch book, and yes, that cap is knitted and then ears are picked up and knit on separately. The other book I mentioned with the hat I think is yours has a sort of square hat so the ears bonk up. I started to make one myself, but it was out of recycled yarn and the yarn was splitting all over the place. I got frustrated, and it’s sitting in bag somewhere. But it looks so damn cute I might have to fish it out and give it a looksie…or go buy buy some bulky yarn. Darn. Shopping. teehee

    I have to tell you though there is something funky with the placement of the ear flaps. I don’t know if I did something wrong, but when I knit it the seam was supposed to be down the back. It ended up on the side. When that happend the ear flaps ended up over my nose and the back of my head. I had to take it out, pick up stitches and re-knit the ear flaps in the correct places. I may have read something wrong or sewn something wrong, but beware before you get to far.
