Hand Bags Netflix Style
February 25, 2006
I couldn’t believe this when I first saw it. This is a website that sends out handbags just like Netflix does. You pick the one that you like, and you can borrow it for as long as you like by paying your membership fee every month. The cheapest is $19.95 a month. It seems to me that this website would have never happened without Sex in the City. I love the show, but this is just a little to weird for me. I also have a ton of purses, but none of the cost this much. Not to mention I don’t change them that often. What do you think? Is this completely arrogant, or is it a fun way to blow some money?

I met a girl in Athens that routinely spent $1500 on a bag and a pair of shoes. She thought that any sweater worth less than $200 wasn’t worth even looing at. The sweater I was wearing at the time had come out of a free-box. This same girl had lived in NYC for her entire life…and never once taken any form of public transportation! It was sur-fucking-real. People will spend their money on anything. At least this way I suppose they are recycling?
It just amazes me what and how people spend money. If I had enought money to routinely buy a $1500 bag I would be doing so much with it. Not to mention living simply and working less. I guess what makes me a little sad about this website is that it’s not for the people who are spending gobs of money on bags all the time, it’s for the people who wish they could. It just sucks a few more people into this idea that if they have the right objects they will be happier.
