Emerson String Quartet Master Class

January 12, 2006

I got to play for the Emerson String Quartet, or rather one of the members of the Emerson String Quartet. His name is Philip Setzer and he is one of the violinists for the quartet. We played an early Beethoven quartet Op. 18 No. 2. Overall it went very well, and was a great experience. Unfortunately I didn’t get to go to their concert last night in Monmouth, OR, partly because I was sick, and partly because I already had a recital to go to. I didn’t end up going to the recital either due to my sudden cold. I think I have bad luck with playing Beethoven. The last time I performed a quartet it was also Beethoven, Op. 59 No. 1 and I came down with the flu the night of the performance. I ended up performing with a temperature of 103°. I’m really going to have to do something about this trend.
