Thoughts on the Writing Process
I can’t believe that NaNoWriMo finished up 19 days ago. So much has happened since and it doesn’t even feel like I wrote 50,000 words. It was over, we celebrated and I moved on to the next important thing to be done.
Even though it was a little crazy to spend a few hours writing every night, it was totally possible to write the novel and meet the requirement. The problem is that it doesn’t really feel done. Sure it’s a lot further along than it was before November came along, but my novel is so far from complete that the sense of accomplishment is somewhat lost. If anything I have a deeper obligation to finish this sucker up and try to get it out in the world. I’ve invested so much already, it would be a shame to just drop it.
When I do decide to pick it up again the first step will be actually writing an ending. The next going through and reading/editing. While I do that, I’m going to have to check on the accuracy of the time period as well as how believable my plot is. I have a feeling I made some far fetched decisions just to accomplish word count.
I may have written 50,000 words, but I have a long way to go on my novel writing journey. It will have to wait for another day, there are still to many knitting projects to complete.
