Pink Martini
I’m so excited about this! On Labor Day weekend as I traveled through Central Oregon Anthony’s i-pod changed tracks and I immediately noticed.
“What’s this?”
“It’s Pink Martini.”
“I really like this,” and with that I sat back and listened to the whole album Sympathique. After that I was hooked. The next weekend I was talking about my new found group to my Aunt Sue and she had seen them play at the Britt Festival. She also mentioned a group that opened for them called the Paris Combo. (However, their site is all in French. If you want to read about them in English here’s their Biography.)
The band is Portland based (live performances close by I hope), is 12 pieces, and has a distinctive vintage worldly sound. They don’t limit themselves to english but sing in several languages. Some of their songs have orchestra parts and they have performed with orchestras occasionally. Now that would be a worthwhile pops concert!
Funny you should be blogging about Pink Martini – I was just listening to Sympathique!
Pink Martini actually played in Bend that weekend while you were in Central O. Their new album, Hang on Little Tomato, is just as enjoyable.
That is tragic! I could have seen them the same weekend I had been enlightened. Oh well! I’m going to start keeping really good track of their performances for future possibilities.
I’ve been a huge fan for many years, and actually I guess they are more popular here in France than they are in the US, aren’t they?
I recently saw them on stage, and once again it was sooo great! They even invited a french cello player from the Orchestre de Paris!
Pink Martini in France! That would be very cool. Did you see them with the Paris Combo? Have you checked out the Paris Combo? It makes sense that Pink Martini would be more popular there. They are going to be in Eugene, OR on May 6 & 7th. It says they are doing something with the Eugene Ballet Company. That should be interesting. Has anyone seen them do something with dancers?
